Mathew Smith

Mathew Smith is a specialist musculoskeletal physiotherapist dedicated to providing exceptional musculoskeletal care to patients in the mid north coast region. Based in Forster, Mathew is the only specialist physiotherapist between Newcastle & the Gold Coast.
He leverages his diverse clinical experience and advanced training to offer unique and effective solutions for a wide range of conditions including; musculoskeletal pain, nerve pain, concussion, headaches and dizziness. He has worked in many clinical settings across Australia, including a specialist sports and knee clinic.
As a Specialist Physiotherapist, Mathew can provide advanced assessment of complex problems. He is passionate about helping patients understand their condition and strives to find practical hands-on solutions to optimise recovery.
Mathew is an experienced teacher and mentor. He facilitates registrars on the Australian College of Physiotherapy specialisation training program and has been a clinical educator for masters students at the University of Queensland. Mathew participates in research with the University of Melbourne evaluating the effectiveness of telehealth for knee osteoarthritis. He sits on two national committees related to physiotherapy education pathways. Mathew also works part-time the at Manning Hospital Taree providing musculoskeletal outpatient care.
Originally from Port Macquarie, Mathew brings a deep understanding of the local community and a passion for an active lifestyle. He grew up as a competitive swimmer, surf lifesaver and Australian footballer. After years of diverse experience working overseas and around Australia, he has moved to Forster to enjoy the country-coastal lifestyle with his family.
Mathew is a member of Cape Hawke Surf Lifesaving Club and swims regularly with the Forster Turtles Winter Swimming Club. Specialist Physio Forster is a proud supporter of Tuncurry Forster Football Club.
